A chance to shine for Nunavut at the 2020 Arctic Winter Games

If you are interested in promoting Nunavut’s culture at an international event, the Government of Nunavut has an opportunity for you.

The sport and recreation division of the Department of Community and Government Services is accepting applications for cultural performers to represent Team Nunavut at the 2020 Arctic Winter Games, according to a news release.

The cultural program at the games will be “a celebration of northern culture featuring youth, community and professional artists from the circumpolar north,” according to the website of the 2020 Arctic Winter Games.

The GN’s news release provides the following information for potential applicants:

  • Participants must have been born between Jan. 1, 1999, and Dec. 31, 2005.
  • Groups must consist of a minimum of three performers and a maximum of six, along with a manager.

The games will take place in Whitehorse, Yukon, from March 15 to March 21, 2020.

The games will feature some 2,000 competitors from nine teams from Canada’s North, Alaska, Greenland, Russia and Scandinavia.

In 2020, there will be 21 sporting events in four categories: traditional sports, such as the arm pull and the one-foot high kick; Nordic sports, such as cross-country skiing; indoor sports, such as badminton; and ice sports, including curling.
