A night of fun for Iqaluit volunteers

Several Iqalummiut braved heavy snowfall and high winds to attend the City of Iqaluit’s volunteer appreciation night at the Discovery Lodge on Thursday, Nov. 24.

The arts and culture award went to Lorraine Thomas for her work with the Iqaluit Music Society.

The youth award went to Alamie Pillaktuaq for his involvement with the Makkuttukkuvik Youth Centre and its youth council. Pillaktuaq also volunteers with community events like Toonik Tyme and sports tournaments.

The sports and recreation award went to Maria O’Hearn, for her work with Iqaluit’s figure skating club.

The Service Organization Member Award went to Johnny Kolola, who volunteers with Iqaluit Search & Rescue. That organization also won the Service Organization Award.

This year’s Community Development Award went to the Iqaluit Amateur Hockey Association.
