Police, firefighters were on scene to extinguish blaze; no injuries reported

By Nunatsiaq News

RCMP in Sanikiluaq say a fire that consumed an old, abandoned vehicle parked behind the gas station Wednesday night appears to have been deliberately set.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. George Henrie said officers responded to the fire at about 8 p.m. It was extinguished by Sanikiluaq firefighters.

Details regarding the type of vehicle involved were not available. Henrie said it had been scheduled to be disposed of at the community dump after being left near Sanikiluaq’s tank farm.

Henrie said there were no injuries reported and no charges have been laid.
