The Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services reported 48 active COVID-19 cases on Thursday, down from 95 two days earlier.

Thursday marks the first time since Deb. 27 that the number of active cases in the region fell below 50. COVID-19 began spreading in the region during the holidays with the Omicron wave of the pandemic.

Since Oct. 7, there have been 2,814 COVID-19 recoveries in Nunavik, according to the health board. That number accounts for a fifth of Nunavik’s population of 13,188, according to census data.

The health board continues to follow the provincial government’s lead in lifting restrictions.
