Air Greenland eyes new route to Canada

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

There’s a glimmer of hope for Nunavut residents who want to see the reinstatement of a scheduled air service between Greenland and Iqaluit.

Air Greenland has begun a study into the possibility of starting a new air route to Canada, Greenland’s KNR radio service reported this week.

The airline has begun to study whether there are passengers – and money to be made- on a route from Nuuk to Iqaluit through to larger Canadian cities.

“Our market analysis is aimed toward all Greenlandic companies who have a need to travel, but also to public organizations as well as institutions,” said Michael Binzer, Air Greenland’s manager of sales and marketing

Binzer says it will never be cheap to travel from Greenland via Iqaluit to Montreal or Ottawa, and that the price for such a journey can be compared to the cost of travelling from Greenland to Denmark – about $2,000.
