Akulivik man guilty of murder
IQALUIT — While in preventive custody last week in Amos, Quebec, Taamusi Angyiou, 26, of Akulivik, pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the death of Evie Luuku, also of Akulivik.
On April 6, 1998, in Akulivik Angyiou entered Luuku’s house and killed her, then sexually assaulted another female person in the house.
Angyiou had been charged with first degree murder, and in May, a psychiatrist’s report determined that Angyiou is mentally fit to stand trial.
Angyiou also pleaded guilty to other related charges: using a firearm while committing a crime, unlawful confinement, and sexual assault.
A Quebec superior court justice will sentence Angyiou on February 28 in Puvirnituq.
For the murder charge alone, Angyiou must serve at least 10 years in prison before he can apply for parole.
