Alberta gets 2004 games
Northern Alberta will be the host of the 2004 Arctic Winter Games.
Gerry Thick, the president of the committee that oversees the games, announced last month that the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will host the games in March 2004.
The games will bring around 1,600 athletes to Peace River, Alta., to compete in contests ranging from hockey to dog mushing to traditional Inuit games.
The 2002 games will be held in Iqaluit and Nuuk, Greenland. The first Arctic Winter Games were held in Yellowknife in 1970.
