Americans burned in Kitikmeot fire

IQALUIT — Three American sports hunters were seriously burned when a fire broke out in their cabin at the Ellice River, 125 kilometres southeast of Cambridge Bay.

The camp’s cook, an Ontario resident, also suffered serious burns.

The four were medevaced to the University of Alberta hospital in Edmonton.

The fire occurred Aug. 26. Three other American hunters who were in the cabin escaped uninjured.

Cambridge Bay RCMP officers say their detachment and the Nunavut fire marshall are investigating the cause of the fire.
