The Qulliq Energy Corp. is now accepting applications for their annual Laura Ulluriaq Gauthier scholarship.
Nunavummiut students enrolled in post-secondary education for September 2019 are eligible to apply. The successful candidate will be chosen based on a strong academic record and outstanding community involvement, the QEC said in a news release.
The $5,000 scholarship is presented annually in honour of Laura Ulluriaq Gauthier, originally from Pangnirtung, who died suddenly of a brain aneurysm in her sleep at the age of 30 in 2000.
Gauthier was an assistant deputy minister in Nunavut’s Department of Executive and Intergovernmental Affairs, where she played a major role in the formation of the Nunavut Power Corp., which later became the QEC.
The scholarship was awarded last year to Jasmine Redfern of Iqaluit, a Nunavut law student and founder of the National Indigenous Young Women’s Council.
For more information to download the application form, interested applicants can visit Qulliq Energy’s website or call QEC’s customer care at 1-866-710-4200.
Applications will be accepted until June 30, 2019.
