Arctic360 conference underway in Toronto

The second annual Arctic360 conference on northern economic development continued in Toronto today. Here, Madeleine Redfern of Iqaluit (middle), the executive director of Arctic360’s northern branch, moderates a discussion with Vittus Qujaukitsoq, Greenland’s minister of finance and mineral resources, and Yvonne Jones, member of Parliament for Labrador. Panelists spoke about how the world is just waking up to the Arctic’s investment potential, and people who live in the North can use this interest to shape their vision of the future. The conference kicked off on Sunday and continues until Tuesday afternoon. (Photo by Meagan Deuling)

Seems to be yet another group that wants Ottawa to build infrastructure in our Arctic that will let them “invest” by taking our resources, and leaving … well, we know what everyone else has left.

And the jobs – they really amount to a cost saving measure, since not so many workers will have to be transported so far.

Maybe it’s time for us to develop our resources for us, at a pace that makes sense to us.

I am curious to know how many delegates were actually from the arctic.

This was not meant for residents of the arctic.

This was a sales “seminar” for suckers (I mean investors) and bag men (I mean bureaucrats).

It was engineered to show each group that the other group is interested and that they should get in now, so as to avoid being left out of this golden opportunity to get in on the ground floor.
