Armed stand-off ends peacefully
Iqaluit man faces two firearms charges
A young Iqaluit man faces two firearms charges after a 10-hour standoff with police ended peacefully last Sunday morning.
The incident began around 1:00 am on June 13, when several people called the Iqaluit RCMP to report that they heard a single gunshot coming from a house in the 100-area, just up the street from the public health clinic.
Police moved some nearby people into the elders centre, sealed off the area, and began negotiating with a young man and young woman who were occupying the house.
Police say no gunshots were fired after they arrived, and no one was hurt.
At around 11:00 am, the young man and the young woman surrendered to police and were taken into custody.
Jason Kilabuk, 20, is charged with one count of unsafe storage of a firearm, and one count of dangerous use of a firearm.
