The incident happened sometime overnight on June 24, RCMP spokesperson Sgt. George Henrie said in an email.
Entry was gained by breaking through a window, and several carvings and other pieces of artwork were reported stolen, he said, adding he didn’t have information on the value of the items taken.
An RCMP news release Friday said that based on closed-circuit camera footage, the suspect appears to be a male with brown hair, wearing a dark jacket, dark pants and a dark ballcap with a logo on the front. He is of medium build.
The investigation is ongoing, the release said.

Expensively dressed for a petty thief.
Doesn’t the college have 24-hour security? Why weren’t they caught before they had the opportunity to collect a bunch of carvings and artwork?
“Short staff”
They do not have 24h security at the main campus.
It would cost a fortune for NAC (and other groups) to have 24/7 security. How sad that this is what we have come down to – petty thieves breaking into places that can hardly stand to be robbed.
A town of 7k and nobody knows who it is with a full frontal picture? Somebodies being protected.
more like 10000
I hope that a list and pictures of the stolen objects have been widely distributed to the hotels and the various airlines and cargo offices.
I speak from experience when I had a business in Iqaluit, I had a carving worth 10k stolen from our shop on a weekend.
I had a picture and advised all the areas where tourists and other visitors would have seen it I sent it to the local government offices where it might have been sold.
Lo and behold, I received information and the name of the person who was seen trying to sell it. The very next day a visitor checking in at the airport saw a copy of the carving, and said to the agent “I think I may have purchased that”
The agent immediately then held the carving and called the RCMP . I received the carving a few days later.
I hope NAC gets their property back and the punk is captured and gets a proper sentence.
GTA heist in real life, I guess…. These don’t happen in nunavik
Someone must know this person, he needs to be caught and locked up for a long time, theft is on the rise here in Iqaluit.
