RCMP in Arviat are asking for the public’s help in finding who is behind several tire slashing incidents over the past few months.
The first incident was reported on April 16, police said Wednesday in a news release.
Since then, there have been five other tire slashing incidents in the hamlet, mainly affecting Eskimo Point Lumber Supplies and the local elder’s centre, said RCMP spokesperson Sgt. George Henrie in an email.
The incidents have caused more than $20,000 in estimated damage.
“It’s a pain,” said Ryan Crawley, manager of Eskimo Point Lumber Supplies projects division.
Crawley said his company has lost 28 tires, mostly from company work trucks. Replacing the slashed tires costs Eskimo Point Lumber Supplies around $750 per tire, he said, because they need to be purchased in the south and shipped up.
“You can’t just buy them at the store here,” he said.
The attacks have happened at random times, Crawley said. Just this week Arviat saw slashing incidents overnight Sunday, then again on Tuesday.
Police ask anybody with information about these incidents to contact the local RCMP detachment or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Not allowed to have things in arviat
Future home of the ITK’s Obed University, brought to you proudly by the Canadian Taxpayer.
Brought to you by a whole lot of people who never went to university.
The amount they think it will cost us laughable. It’s already too expensive flying from Clyde river to iqaluit. Imagine students paying $6,000 for 1 way ticket to arviat coming in from baffin.
Setting up a university there was the dumbest choice possible.
I know what’s going on. The new university. Will need professors. To teach a master class in vandalism.
Who is doing this. Wants to get some experience.
So he can apply to teach the course.
