Arviat’s active COVID-19 cases climb to 27
10 new cases reported in hamlet on Sunday

Ten COVID-19 cases reported in Arviat on Sunday brought Nunavut’s total number of active cases to 27.
Premier Joe Savikataaq announced the increase in a Twitter message in which he thanked Nunavummiut for their hard work and following public health measures aimed at prevent the spread of the potentially fatal respiratory disease.
“Please stay vigilant and stay healthy,” Savikataaq wrote on Twitter.
In total, there have been 250 cases in Arviat, according to the Health Department’s website.
The hamlet of 2,600 people in the Kivillaq region accounts for the largest number of Nunavut’s COVID-19 cases, which stood at 284 as of Sunday.
COVID-19 claimed the life of one man from Arviat last December.
Over the weekend, the total number of COVD-19-related deaths in Canada climbed to more than 20,000. Across the country, the number people who have been diagnosed with the virus hit 778,972 on Sunday.
