Nunavut’s Health Department is warning people of a recall of baby food over possible health concerns.

The department issued a public health advisory Tuesday on the recall of oat banana and mango baby cereal manufactured by Gerber in 227-gram containers with a best-before date of May 30, 2025.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued the recall due to a possible Cronobacter contamination, the advisory said.

Cronobacter is a naturally occurring bacteria sometimes found in dry foods including infant formula, powdered milk and herbal teas, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada.

Infections are rare, it said, but can cause serious illness or be fatal. Symptoms in babies can include fever, poor feeding, low energy, seizures and excessive crying.

Nunavut’s Health Department said contaminated food may not look or smell spoiled but can still make people sick. Recalled products should either be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased, the advisory said.
