Nunavummiut are being advised to check any European Butcher brand Canadian back bacon they purchased, due to a possible listeria contamination.
On Aug. 19, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a recall for the three Canadian bacon products that were distributed in Ontario, the Department of Health said in a news release Friday.
As of yet, there have been no reported illnesses associated with consumption, the federal food inspection agency said.
Food contaminated with listeria may not look or smell spoiled but can still make people sick, the Health Department said in the announcement.
Symptoms associated with illness caused by listeria can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.
It can cause greater risk to people with compromised immune systems, pregnant women and the elderly.
The European Butcher brand products involved are Canadian back bacon half, back bacon chunks and back bacon sliced. The Health Department urged people who have any of these products with Batch No. 177 codes to throw out the products or return them to the store where they were purchased.
The full list of recalled products, with UPC codes, can be found here.
Anyone who thinks they have become sick from a recalled product is advised to contact their local health centre.
