Baffin hospital contract awarded

Officials gathered in Iqaluit’s legislative assembly for the signing of a development agreement and construction contract for the $46 million Qikiqtani General Hospital.

The Government of Nunavut signed the agreement with Qikiqtalluk Corporation, which then signed a construction contract with Montreal-based SNC-Lavalin Engineers and Constructors Inc.

Finance Minister Leona Aglukkaq, Health and Social Services Minister Levinia Brown and Minister of Community and Government Services Peter Kilabuk were present.

Acting president and CEO Peter Keenainak represented Qikkiqtaaluk Corp. with project director Harry Flaherty. Garry Mockler represented SNC-Lavalin.

Qikiqtaaluk Corp. got financial support for the project from the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. through Atuqtuarvik Corporation.
