Water deliveries and sewage pump-outs in Baker Lake are delayed this week due to a fuel shortage in the community.
The Hamlet of Baker Lake issued a public service announcement Thursday about the issue, advising people to conserve water until the next fuel resupply comes.
Nunatsiaq News asked the hamlet of Baker Lake and the Government of Nunavut why there is a fuel shortage in the community and what other effects residents might be experiencing due to the fuel shortage, but did not receive an answer by press time.
The delays will continue until the next fuel shipment arrives, the hamlet said in the announcement.
According to ship tracking website Marine Traffic, the oil tanker Tuvaq W was approaching Baker Lake Friday and was expected to arrive in the community by 7:30 p.m. local time.
Normal trucked services will resume as soon as the fuel shipment has arrived and trucks have refueled, the hamlet said in the release.
