BCC inmate dies suddenly
IQALUIT — An inmate at the jail in Iqaluit collapsed and died Tuesday morning.
Aipeelee Oshutsiaq, 33, originally from Cape Dorset, collapsed in his dormitory at the Baffin Correctional Centre.
BCC staff administered first aid and an ambulance was summoned to take Oshutsiaq to the Baffin Regional Hospital. He died shortly after he arrived at the hospital.
According to an RCMP news release, no foul play is suspected in Oshutsiaq’s death.
The Nunavut coroner’s officer is arranging an autopsy to determine the exact cause of his death. Results from the autopsy will likely be available by early next week.
