Beluga die in Labrador

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

IQALUIT — Two beluga whale carcasses were found in a river near Happy Valley-Goose Bay in Labrador.

The federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans sent veterinarians to the area last week to try to save a third whale.

DFO officials said the whales had been living in St. Paul’s River since early June.

Local outfitters told CBC radio in Newfoundland that the water level in the river is very low.
