Bird flu boosts fish sales

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

The scare of the bird flu has made consumers in the European Union countries turn from chicken to salmon. So far this year the export of salmon from Norway has increased by 10 per cent, according to recent figures.

The sale of Norwegian salmon in the European Union increased over the past week, while the sale of chicken has dropped, particularly in countries where the bird flu virus has been detected.

In Italy, poultry meat sales have dropped off 70 per cent since a bird flu outbreak among migratory birds, and many butchers simply stopped selling chicken and duck altogether.
