Bomb threat forces emergency landing in Kangerlussuaq
An SAS plane carrying 197 passengers and 11 crew from Copenhagen, Denmark, to Seattle, Washington, made an emergency landing in Greenland on Tuesday after U.S. authorities warned the flight had received a bomb threat.
The flight headed for Kangerlussuaq, the nearest airport, after learning of the potential danger, SAS information director Simen Revold told Norway’s Aftenposten newspaper.
Passengers evacuated the plane and a methodical check of baggage followed. Officials were unsure when the flight would continue on, and whether or not the trip would take place with the same plane.
“Of course this is inconvenient for our passengers, but we hope that most of them understand that we had to take this situation extremely seriously,” Revold said.
