Borders bad for Saami
The president of the Saami Parliament, Sven-Roald Nystø, says Saami in Norway would like to be able to work in Finland, but borders prevent any freedom of movement in the region.
Earlier this week, a graphic description of life in the region bordering Norway and Finland was presented by Synnøve Solbakken Härkönen of the Saami Upper Secondary School in Karasjok in Norway at a seminar organized by the Saami Parliament in Karasjok.
Working in Norway and living a few kilometres away in Finland meant her tax bill was so high that her family ended up moving across to the Norwegian side of the border.
