Brewer to lead New Brunswick NDP
Allison Brewer, a gay rights activist and former resident of Iqaluit, is expected to announce this week whether she’ll take over the leadership of the New Brunswick NDP.
Brewer, 50, moved back to Fredericton from Iqaluit last year, shortly after receiving an award from the Governor General to honour her efforts in promoting equality for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgendered people.
During her time in Nunavut, Brewer was a leading supporter of the territory’s Human Rights Act that narrowly passed in November 2003.
She was also a main organizer for the annual Pride and Friends of Pride picnic in Iqaluit.
