The byelection to replace former Hudson Bay MLA Daniel Qavvik will be held Sept. 28.
Speaker David Joanasie gave the update Thursday in the legislature.
The seat for Hudson Bay — a constituency that consists solely of the community of Sanikiluaq — became vacant last week after Qavvik announced his resignation.
He told his colleagues he chose to resign in order to take care of his spirituality and mental health.
Qavvik had been the MLA since 2021, and was re-elected by acclamation in 2025.
