Cambay housing petition goes nowhere

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

A petition for more public housing in Cambridge Bay has had little effect on the Government of Nunavut.

The petition asks the GN to “put their money where their mouth is and actually allocate funding in the 2005-06 budget,” said Vicki Aitoak, the manager of the Cambrige Bay Housing Association.

The petition attracted over 200 signatures in just two days. Cambridge Bay MLA Keith Peterson tabled the report in the legislative assembly this session, but nothing happened.

Aitoak said the petition was done in September so that the GN would have time to consider it for this year’s budget.

The wait for housing in Cambridge Bay is now two years, and the housing association’s list has 37 names.
