The scheduled start of Cambridge Bay’s spring festival, Umingmak Frolics, was cancelled Friday at noon by the municipality.

“We would like to inform everyone that all frolics events scheduled for today have been cancelled. Some events will be moved to a future date and another announcement made,” said the public announcement posted on the municipal Facebook page.

The municipality did not indicate the reason for the cancellation. But, in another notice, it said to residents, “Please use this day to spend time with your families, enjoy the lovely weather outside, embrace life today and enjoy each other’s company.”

The municipality said the civic holiday on Friday still would stand.

“We will be working to create another civic holiday and will have more info early next week, ” the municipality said.
