RCMP officers are asking for the public’s help in a homicide investigation six days after the death of a 41-year-old man in Cambridge Bay.

Police went to a home on Kilgavik Street just after 11 a.m. on Saturday after receiving a report of an unresponsive male, RCMP said in a news release Friday. The man, whose name was not released by police, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nunavut RCMP’s major crime unit determined it was homicide and is leading the investigation.

The police did not say how the man died or if anyone else was in the residence at the time he was discovered.

A spokesperson for Nunavut RCMP was not available Friday to provide further information.

Earlier this year, residents in Cambridge Bay were on edge following a violent attack on two men that RCMP say was drug-related.

Four men were charged for multiple offences including aggravated assault, forceable confinement and trafficking in a controlled substance in July. The arrests led Mayor Wayne Gregory, Cambridge Bay MLA Pamela Gross and RCMP Supt. Kent Pike to hold a town hall meeting to address community members’ concerns.
