RCMP in Cambridge Bay are investigating a fire that broke out at a home earlier this week.

Officers received a report of the fire on Ublogiahokyok Road around 12:39 a.m. Tuesday, said a news release from RCMP.

The local volunteer fire department put out the blaze, which caused minor damage. No one was injured, the release said.

The cause of the fire is suspicious, RCMP said, and officers are asking the public for help.

Nunatsiaq News reached out to the hamlet earlier this week but no one was available to comment.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Cambridge Bay RCMP at 867-983-0123 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The smell of smoke is a welcome change from the usual overwhelming stench of full sewage tanks.

What is our town coming too?
Our community is unsafe and residents are at a loss. We have so many unwilling to work, dependent on handouts, drug and alcohol addiction, poor parenting, youth gang violence, business &personal vehicles flying down the roads, garbage everywhere, poor municipal leadership .. a armed robbery and a murder! Cambridge Bay is hurting badly. We need help.

Not to take anything away from the water truck drivers, but they were not “working”, they were waiting to see if they could leave after they responded to the initial alarm along with a fire truck. No water was pumped, and we didn’t have to put out any fire.
