As Canadian North changes hands, the airline will commemorate the end of its Montreal-Kuujjuaq route on Tuesday.

“This is a meaningful moment to honour the history of this connection and to celebrate the relationships that have shaped it over the years,” a Canadian North news release posted on social media said.

Canadian North, the longtime operator of the Montreal-Kuujjuaq route, is hosting the get-together at the Kuujjuaq airport from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. It’s open to the public.

The Montreal-Kuujjuaq route that was operated by Canadian North will be taken over by Air Inuit, with the first flight expected Aug. 6. The change was announced in conjunction with the sale of Canadian North to Exchange Income Corp. in February.

Makivvik Corp. and Inuvialuit Regional Corp. sold Bradley Air Ltd., which operates as Canadian North, to Exchange Income Corp. for $205 million on Feb. 24. The sale received regulatory approval from Transport Canada and the Canadian Competition Bureau in early July.

Exchange Income Corp. is “an aviation and aeronautics acquisition company,” according to the firm’s website. It operates several regional airlines across Canada, primarily in the North.

Canadian North has provided information on its website about the transition.

Passengers who have already booked flights with Canadian North for travel on Aug. 6 or after will have their tickets transferred to Air Inuit automatically. Booking tickets for the Montreal-Kuujjuaq route with Canadian North will still be possible until Aug. 5.

More information on rebooking can be found on the Canadian North website.

Starting Aug. 6, Air Inuit will begin offering daily flights from Montreal to Kuujjuaq. Daily weekday flights from Kuujjuaq to Montreal will also be available.

Representatives from Air Inuit could not be reached for comment on the company’s new flight schedules.

Maybe I’m just crusty, but CN was all over social media yesterday “celebrating” the end of operating this route. Fanfare, CEO, giveaways etc etc. When people are struggling with cost of airfare, these extravagances when you are ENDING a service just shows how out of touch CN is with what matters. Leave the fanfare for Air Inuit and focus on moving cargo and people and their luggage more reliably….

Canadian north is one of the best service we had in Nunavik. Probably even the best , considering the whole of bad service we have. Air inuit will prove to be a nightmare for this Kuujjuaq Montreal route. Its already screwing up medical appointments with delays and cancellation and no room here and there. Not good. We are victims of a poorly operated service, and the cost and the poor treatment of inuit beneficiaries.
