Childcare in Cambridge Bay

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

A charity auction held Oct. 23 raised $30,000 for the Cambridge Bay Childcare Society.

“We hear almost every week (that) some Nunavut communities don’t have daycare facilities or they have been closed down due to lack of funding,” Cambridge Bay MLA Keith Peterson told the legislative assembly last Wednesday.

“It is comforting for working parents to know they can put their children in the care of professionally trained and certified childcare professionals while they got to work or school.”

Peterson made the comment in recognition of National Child Day, held Nov. 20.

He also asked that the government consider building a larger daycare facility, and pointed out that the economy suffers when parents don’t have help to care for their children.
