Anyone wanting to donate money to help people left homeless by this week’s fire at Noble House in Iqaluit can do so through a program the City of Iqaluit is organizing.

Starting Friday, donations of either cash or cheques, made payable to the City of Iqaluit, will be accepted at city hall. The city is currently unable to provide charitable donation receipts.
Money transfers or payments by debit or credit cards will not be accepted, according to a City of Iqaluit news release Thursday morning.
City hall is operating with limited services Thursday due to the fire that destroyed the apartment complex, which is nearby on Mivvik Street. City staff has been temporarily redirected to help with fire relief efforts.
It’s not clear how many residents were displaced by the fire, which started at around 6 p.m. Wednesday. The building also housed businesses and government services.
As of Thursday morning, the remains of the building were still smouldering.
The cadet hall opened Wednesday evening as a warming centre for Noble House residents.
Why can’t they accept debit or credit card payments? A municipality should know that taking cash donations is sketchy.
Why no e-transfers? I’m down South and want to donate, but who uses cheques anymore unless you’re a business?! I’m 40 and I don’t even use cheques anymore….
