City to hold public meetings about changes to Liquor Act
Iqaluit city council’s Niksiit committee wants to take a serious look at the Nunavut Liquor Act.
The committee, responsible for reviewing social issues in Iqaluit, will hold public consultations in the city.
The Nunavut Liquor Board has already toured communities in the territory, gathered residents comments, and made a list of recommendations on how to change the Nunavut Liquor Act.
But the committee says it wants to give Iqaluit residents another chance to discuss liquor issues. Alcohol is a sensitive issue in Iqaluit because it has several bars.
The committee will spend $5,500 to organize and run the meetings in Iqaluit, expected to take place within the next few months.
