Four-year-old Florence Oldham, from Iqaluit, and family friend Kim Fairhall, visiting from Huntsville, Ont., tried their hand at cleaning and preparing a seal skin using an ulu on Thursday. They were among about a dozen people who braved a cold, rainy day to join in on one of the free ‘Learn To’ cultural events staged weekly at Sylvia Grinnell Territorial Park this summer by the Department of the Environment. Topics next week include how to make pitsi, or dried fish. Similar Learn To events are being held at Kugluktuk Territorial Park in Kugluktuk and Iqalugaarjuup Nunanga Territorial Park in Rankin Inlet. A full schedule of events is on the Government of Nunavut website. (Photo by Gord Howard)
