CLEY moves forward on IQ
Olayuk Akesuk, the minister responsible for the department of culture, language, elders and youth, announced the creation of a new structure within government this week, one branch of which will be the long-awaited elders council.
The katimajiit, a group of elders from outside government, will be invited to consult and comment on issues relating to Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit.
There will also be a separate group within government, called the tuqtarviit. Each department will have a tuqtarvik, one person with the full-time responsibility of arranging Inuit approaches to the work of government.
CLEY will become the central agency for these groups. However, each department will individually hire and define the role of its respective tuqtarvik.
