Clyde River man arrested after weeks on the run

Clyde River RCMP have arrested a 25-year-old man who was wanted on a Nunavut-wide warrant following a firearm incident that prompted a shelter-in-place alert in the community earlier this month.
Police arrested Norman Natanine on July 24, RCMP announced Monday in a news release. He was found in Clyde River.
The arrest warrant was issued after RCMP responded to a report on July 7 of a distraught man driving an ATV while carrying a firearm. Police asked residents to shelter in place while they investigated.
Natanine surrendered the firearm but did not surrender himself and remained at large, RCMP spokesperson Sgt. George Henrie said at the time.
He was facing charges including possession of a firearm while prohibited, dangerous operation of a vehicle, breach of probation and uttering threats.
He was also wanted on a separate warrant, issued June 3, for an alleged assault and three counts of breach of probation.
The July incident was not the first time Natanine’s actions prompted a lockdown in Clyde River.
Police issued a shelter-in-place warning in December 2020 after Natanine assaulted his then-girlfriend and shot into an RCMP officer’s home while their family was inside.
