Community-wide power outage set for Kugaaruk on Saturday

A three-hour community-wide power outage is scheduled in Kugaaruk for Saturday morning to allow work crews to safely install a new power plant generator, Qulliq Energy Corp. announced Thursday.
People will be affected by the outage from 5 to 8 a.m.
The upgrade is part of Qulliq’s effort to improve system reliability in the community by upgrading aging infrastructure, the release said.
Like power plants in 13 other Nunavut communities, Kugaaruk’s plant is well past its lifespan, according to a 2015 Senate report looking at Nunavut’s infrastructure.
