Congratulations to Madeleine Qumuatuq

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

I want to congratulate Madeleine Qumuatuq on her appointment as the new chairperson for the Status of Women Council of Nunavut.

I’ve known Madeleine to be a very caring and compassionate person, in touch with her people, women, and especially elders with great respect, and I have appreciated her work in aiding my mother with kindness, patience, and understanding.

She is well-educated and seems to have a good head on her shoulders to get things done that must get done, and she does this cheerfully and without an attitude of superiority.

She is a fine person who I think will do just the job needed to get things done for Inuit women, in changing legislation that takes away their rights in areas of child protection and repatriate many rights and recognitions valued by Inuit.

She is not afraid to speak up for what she believes in, and she stays in touch with her people.

Congratulations. I wish her a big success in her work, and for her daughter in the future, as well as for all the daughters on their way now and in the future.
