Council approves funding for wellness projects
Iqaluit city council has approved funding for several community wellness projects.
The money comes from the City of Iqaluit’s Brighter Futures and Building Healthy Communities funds.
About $47,000 of the money will go toward a “single mothers’ retreat.” Under this program, Iqaluit resident Elisapee Davidee will take single mothers out camping on the land.
The Iqaluit Music Society will get $22,750.
Ten thousands dollars will go toward the cost of sending some Iqaluit elders to the 2002 Elders’ Gathering in Puvirnituq, Nunavik.
Another $72,375 will pay the salary of a community wellness coordinator.
