The number of COVID-19 cases in Nunavut continues to fall this week, with a drop from 16 to 13 between Monday and Tuesday.
Premier Joe Savikataaq announced Tuesday just one new case of the virus detected in the territory.
Twelve of the 13 active cases in the territory are in Iqaluit, while one remains in Kinngait.
Over the long weekend, Savikataaq urged Nunavimmiut to stay home to help keep COVID-19 numbers down.
With COVID-19 cases isolated to just two communities, health officials have started to ease public health restrictions in most Qikiqtani communities.
Starting this week, elementary school instruction in these communities will take place at school, and middle and high school instruction will be a blend of in-school and remote learning.
These students will attend school two or three days per week with staggered schedules to reduce physical interaction, education officials announced last week.
Students of all ages in Kinngait remain on staggered schedules of in-person and online learning.
Schools in Iqaluit are still only offering remote learning.
