Isolation measures have been lifted at Gjoa Haven’s continuing care centre after all eight residents who tested positive for COVID-19 recovered from the virus, the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Health said Tuesday.

On Sept. 23, the GN announced an outbreak had been declared at the facility after eight clients and one staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

There were no hospitalizations, the department said.

Visitations at the centre have resumed and the building is operating under regular infection-prevention guidelines, including screening of all individuals when they arrive at the centre. As well, staff and visitors continue to wear masks.

The outbreak followed a warning by chief public health officer Dr. Michael Patterson in early September of an expected winter wave of COVID-19.

At the Gjoa Haven centre, staff members who were infected with COVID-19 have recovered and no other staff have tested positive for the virus, the GN said.
