Crash victim dies
IQALUIT — A Clyde River man has died from injuries he suffered in a helicopter crash earlier this month.
Adam Paneak, 49, died from severe burns Aug. 23 at the Ottawa General Hospital. Paneak was medevaced to the hospital after the Aug. 9 crash, which killed two other men.
The accident happened near Flint Lake on northwestern Baffin Island, where the men were prospecting for minerals. They were working for Vancouver-based mining company Cominco Ltd., which operates an exploration camp near the lake.
The pilot, Charles Carom, 35, died instantly from head injuries suffered in the crash. Geology student Mike Daniska, 22, was killed by burns caused when the helicopter burst into flames upon impact.
