The current leadership team at Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada has been appointed to their official executive positions after serving in interim roles since February.

The national non-profit Inuit women’s organization confirmed during its regular Oct. 17 board meeting in Ottawa that Nancy Etok will stay on as chairperson of the board of directors during a regular board meeting in Ottawa on Oct. 17.

The organization announced the move in a news release Tuesday.

Etok, who took on the role of interim president in February, represented the organization in Mexico City last month as part of a trilateral working group that addressed the alarming rates of violence against Indigenous women and girls.

Looee Mike, a community wellness coordinator in Pangnirtung, continues on as the organization’s vice-chairperson. Paige Kimiksana Kreps, who also serves as the Toronto regional manager at Tungasuvvingat Inuit, is Pauktuutit’s secretary-treasurer.

All three members will continue to serve the national non-profit for the next two years.

“We are thrilled to have such a committed and experienced leadership team guiding Pauktuutit,” Etok said in a news release.

“Their continued leadership will be instrumental in driving our mission forward and advocating for the needs and rights of Inuit women, girls and gender-diverse individuals,” she said.

Recently elected board members representing Qikiqtani North, the urban Southeast region and Yellowknife, as well as a youth representative for Inuit Nunangat, were also welcomed during the meeting.

Board member positions for Iqaluit and Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Urban are open to those interested, according to the news release.
