Inclement weather affected municipal election turnout across Nunavut on Oct. 28, but aside from a few blizzard delays, unofficial results are now flowing in from most communities for elections to choose mayors, municipal councillors, district education authority members and alcohol education committee members.
Bad weather led to the postponement until Tuesday, Oct. 29, of voting in Rankin Inlet, Chesterfield Inlet, Baker Lake and Whale Cove.
Also, elections for district education authorities in Arctic Bay, Clyde River and Qikiqtarjuaq won’t be held until Dec. 9.
That’s because no DEA candidates stepped forward in those communities, and Elections Nunavut will try to hold those votes again, with declarations of candidacy re-opening Nov. 4 to Nov. 8.
Across the territory, some communities will see acclaimed mayors and councils.
They include: both mayor and council for Grise Fiord, Resolute Bay, Arctic Bay, Coral Harbour and Cape Dorset, and council only for Pond Inlet, Clyde River, Qikiqtarjuaq, Igloolik, Hall Beach, Taloyoak, Gjoa Haven, Kimmirut.
Here’s a list of council and mayor candidates, with unofficial results where they are available.

i was asked by many friends and well-witchers why i chose not to run for the presstijous mayors crown this year . to be honnest i was quite tempted because it would have been a grate oppirtunity for me to implimint some of my ideas such as abandoning utildore and have everyone get their water at northmert which is much more economical . also have better road access for scootirs some of us are riding with dogs you know ! also abolishing the antikwated dress codes at the city pool and saunas . also houman resources training for the rude lady at first air who laffed at me the time i ripped my favorite pants . also building a fense are my yard to keep those aweful turists away from my shed .
however i dicided against putting my name in the hat because my primarie concern at the moment is my poor wifes nervous disposision . seeing her hansome husband of 37 years on the throne barking orders would shirly be the end of her . she also threatined to cut my sweets allotmint in half if i had chosen to run . i would not survive a day without her chocolate squares !
but i must admit i am sad because I would have shirly won the mayors ship . perhaps next year .
Congratulations to all who were elected as Mayor, Council,
Also respectful wishes to those that didn’t make it.
