The Nunavut RCMP urges the public not to respond to emailed bomb threats circulating throughout Canada and the United States.
Police say they are aware of the threats received across North America: emails in which the sender demands a payment through Bitcoin—a form of cryptocurrency—and threatens to detonate a bomb if the ransom is not paid.
But there have been no reported threats in Nunavut, the RCMP said in a Dec. 13 release.
“If you have been the recipient of one of these e-mail threats, do not respond to the Bitcoin demand,” the RCMP said.
“Exercise caution, remain alert and immediately contact your local police.”
