Animal euthanized by bylaw officers after 10-day observation period

The dog suspected to have attacked an 11-year-old child in Iqaluit on Aug. 24 is dead.
It was euthanized on Thursday in the care of the Municipal Enforcement Department, city spokesperson Geoff Byrne announced Friday in a public service announcement.
The attack left the girl with serious injuries to her head and face, and she was later medevaced to Ottawa for surgical treatment.
On Aug. 28, the dog’s owner voluntarily surrendered the animal to bylaw.
“Prior to surrendering the dog, the owner had attempted to arrange for the animal to be euthanized through a veterinary service,” said Byrne in the announcement. “However, this service was not available locally.”
Bylaw officers retained the dog for a 10-day observation period, which was mandated by public health. That observation period ended Thursday.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, Byrne said.
So what was the observation? Parents need to teach the children if its not your dog and its tied to stay away.
