IQALUIT — A preliminary inquiry into the more than 60 sex offence charges leveled at former Apex school principal Edward Horne is scheduled to begin Jan. 24.

The inquiry will determine whether there is enough evidence for Horne to go to trial.

Horne, who also taught in Sanikiluaq, Grise Fiord and Cape Dorset, pleaded guilty in 1987 to sexually assaulting 8 children. The offences in that case happened between 1983 and 1985. The new charges allege that offences occurred between 1970 and 1985. There are 44 complainants in the new case.

Horne was arrested at an airport in Ontario last spring as he got off a plane from Mexico. He has been in custody since March 31, 1999
