Elders weigh in on climate change
IQALUIT — Nunavut elders are meeting in Cambridge Bay to discuss whether climate change is affecting the Arctic.
Organized by Nunavut Tunngavik Inc., the meeting began yesterday and wraps up tomorrow. It brings together respected elders from 20 Nunavut communities, as well as officials from NTI, the GN, regional Inuit associations, the Inuit Tapirisat of Canada, the Inuit Circumpolar Conference, and the federal government.
In attendance as well will be well-known environmentalist David Suzuki, who hosts the CBC television show The Nature of Things.
At the meeting, elders will discuss the changes they’ve seen to the land, ice, plants and animals in Nunavut.
The possible future effects of climate change will also be addressed.
