Every day should be Women’s Day

On International Women’s Day, Wednesday, March 8, nearly every member of Nunavut’s legislature stood up to recognize the women who are important in their lives — daughters, mothers, wives, nurses and their female colleagues in the assembly.

Iqaluit Centre MLA Hunter Tootoo recognized the hard lives many women live, particularly in Nunavut, with its “shocking rates of conjugal violence, and the hard work women do for less pay: Canadian women earn only 71 cents for every dollar men make.
