Explosive detectors could slow air travel

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

The government of the Northwest Territories has announced plans to install explosives detectors in the Yellowknife airport.

That means Nunavummiut passing through the Yellowknife airport will not only have to pass through a second set of security, but will also have to accompany their baggage as it goes through the explosive detector device, Cambridge Bay MLA Keith Peterson said.

Peterson asked David Simailak, the GN’s minister of transportation, whether something could be done to ease the flow of traffic for Kitikmeot residents passing through.

Simailak promised to look into it. He also said that the government is currently talking to the federal government about adding this equipment to the Iqaluit airport in the future.
